Taylor Jones

Taylor Jones had been an athletic standout all his life. He took all-city and all-state honorable mention honors on the baseball field at Skyline High School in Oakland. After high school he dedicated himself to weight training, culminating in the ability to deadlift over 500 lbs.

But as Taylor’s baseball career came to a close, he found himself searching for the next step in his journey. Having a passion for athletics, Taylor found work at gyms all around Oakland as he searched for a mentor and studied to become a strength coach.

It was during this search Taylor came into contact with Jesse Schmidt and Liam Bauer. Having dedicated many hours to strength training over the prior decade, Taylor was surprised when Jesse told him one day that he could achieve better results in the gym by working harder and spending less time lifting.

The plan worked. By following a training regimen of working out twice per week, along with a disciplined nutrition plan, Taylor was able to build muscle and lose body fat to an undeniable degree. Over the next few months, Taylor became convinced this new way of training held massive potential.

He began to think about how this safe, efficient style of lifting weights could help him make a lasting impact in his community. Having lost several members of his family to health problems, Taylor was excited to keep learning about how powerful strength training could be as a tool to fight chronic disease.

Things were looking up, but life had another twist in store for him. Like many others, the Covid pandemic led Taylor to pursue a new job offer, severing his day to day contact with Liam and Jesse.

The job at the new gym failed to launch as Covid delays made gym construction impossible. Though disappointed, Taylor kept up the training he had begun under Liam and Jesse’s tutelage. As the pandemic began to shift, Taylor, Jesse, and Liam got back in touch.

In 2021, Taylor completed his apprenticeship with TNT Strength in Oakland and became the company’s first full-time strength coach. The days of searching for the next step had been replaced by dedication to the pursuit of knowledge in exercise science and building relationships with his many clients.

Taylor has since gone on to assume the role of Lead Strength Coach at TNT Strength and continues to serve a diverse array of clients from teenage athletes to octogenarians.

When Taylor isn’t training clients, he’s likely to be at the pool table, at a ballgame (Dubs, A’s, or Giants), traveling, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, or enjoying some fine dining.

Taylor looks forward to serving and spending time in the Oakland community that helped raise him.
